We have just returned from a week in Soldeu (26/01-02/02) and have had a fantastic time. Having read the reviews on this hotel I must admit I was a little bit worried as to what greeted us, but i shouldn't have been as the hotel lived up to it's 4 star rating. We stayed in one of the appartment rooms with our 2 year old daughter. The room was very spacious, very clean and had an amazing view of the snow covered mountains. it was nice to have a bath in the room to soak the tired limbs after a day on the slopes. Room had it's own temperature control which was great. There was good storage space for all our clothes aswell. I was a little surprised to have to pay 3 euro a night to use the safe in the room! The food was superb with a good variety of hot and cold foods to suit all tastes. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style so it is a case of eat what you want. Despite the previous reviews we had read we did not experience one bad meal. The food tasted great and was hot. I did not see any other persons complaining and there was certainly no queues at the microwaves as other reviews had stated. The hotel provides a regular bus service to and from the gondola but the queues did get a bit long between 0915 to 1000 hrs and 1600 - 1700 hrs. if you are up to it then it's only a 10 minute walk to and from the gondola which is approx 400m away. We chose this hotel for the facilities that it provided including a games room and swimming pool. The games room was great for kids with lots of activites to keep them occupied and was free to use. However we were horrified at the cost to use the swimming pool (12 euro for adults, 5 euro for kids!!!!) that was a bit of a shock and hence only used once during our stay. The bar an lounge area were pleasant with free wifi available which seemed to work fine. However if you want to have a few drinks in the hotel then be prepared to re-mortgage your house before you go!!! On the first night i paid £20 for three drinks hence this was the only night we had a drink at the hotel. On the whole we were very impressed with the hotel and would certainly consider staying here again. Our thanks to the Piolets Park and Spa Hotel for a fantastic holiday.
